
Daniel P. Krontz - Received a BA in Biology (Cum laude), in 1979 and his Medical Degree from the University of Missouri in 1983. He then attended the University of Tennessee in Memphis where he specialized in Ophthalmology graduating in 1987. Dr. Krontz joined Western Carolina Eye Associates in July of 1987 and has been caring for area residents ever since. He has a special interest in cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and corneal transplants. He performs surgeries at both Watauga Medical Center and Ashe Memorial Hospital. Cosmetic and functional lid surgeries are performed in the Boone office on State Farm Road. Dr. Krontz is an active member of Boone United Methodist church where his wife, Colette, is the Children’s Ministry Director. He is an active supporter of Watauga County schools and frequently found doing missionary work in Mexico.
Penelope M. Copenhaver – Graduated from Rutgers University in 1994 with a degree in Biology and went on to The Eye Institute at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where she obtained her Optometric Degree in 1998. During the past 12 years, she has practiced Optometry in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Hawaii. Dr. Copenhaver joined Western Carolina Eye Associates in December, 2009. Her special interests are multifocal contact lenses and caring for patients with dry eye issues. Dr. Copenhaver, her husband Jim and their six beautiful children are enjoying the “High Country” lifestyle and the many opportunities our community has to offer.
Dr. Mandy L. Lanier - Is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition she completed a residency certification in Family Practice Optometry at Northeastern State College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dr Lanier enjoys providing comprehensive eye care to the whole family with specific areas of concentration being contact lenses, dry eyes, ocular disease, adult and geriatric care. Her volunteer work with under-served communities has taken her as far as El Salvador, Peru, Colombia, and Argentina Dr Lanier’s personal interests include travel, art, and spending time outdoors with her dog, Abby. She and her husband, Adam, are excited to join the welcoming Boone and Jefferson communities.
